Joeke Bonthuys is an accomplished makeup artist specializing in film and television, with expertise in makeup, basic hairstyling, and prosthetics. After initially pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Human Life Sciences (2012-2013), Joeke transitioned to the creative arts, earning a qualification in Motion Picture Makeup & Production Design (2014-2016).
Trained in Cape Town’s dynamic film industry, Joeke began their career in the Crowd department, gradually working their way up to the leads team. Collaborating closely with Makeup & Hair Designers, they have played a role in developing characters that bring stories to life. Their expertise has led to positions as an On-Set Makeup & Hair Supervisor, Supervisor, and Prosthetics Crowd Supervisor.
Throughout their career, Joeke has had the privilege of working internationally in South Africa, Mozambique, Romania, Malta, Morocco, and the UAE. They have collaborated with major production houses such as Netflix, HBO Max, Paramount, and Sky TV & Sony Pictures.
With a diverse portfolio, Joeke has contributed to renowned TV productions including One Piece, Warrior, Around the World in 80 Days, Resident Evil, Raised by Wolves, Troy: Fall of a City, and the upcoming Atomic. Their work also extends to blockbuster films such as G20, Maze Runner, Tomb Raider, Bloodshot, and the forthcoming Bethlehem.
